One winter's night
When the moon shone bright
On a drifted blanket of snow,
A raccoon crowd,
Rowdy and loud,
Swaggered up to our cabin window.
Their small masked eyes
Lit up in surprise
When they saw that noone was there;
So they gnawed out a vent,
And inside they went,
Chattering in the merriest cheer.
They wanted to play,
'Cause that's their way,
And they looked for things they could throw;
The first thing at hand
Was an old wash stand
That they knocked over, just for the show!
With nothing to lose,
They got into the booze,
There was never a merrier bunch;
Then, they wanted to eat,
So they looked for a treat
And found paper napkins for lunch.
After they ate,
They felt really great,
And so it was back to the fun;
With a stop by the door
To lap booze from the floor,
To the bedroom for what else could be done.
They threw coins around,
'Cause they liked the sound
Of my coins asthey hit the floor;
And when they got bored
With the coins I had stored,
They went back to lap at the booze once more.
Then, back into the snow,
With a drunken glow,
The raccoons all staggered about;
The moral, my dear,
Is perfectly clear,
Lock your booze up when the raccons are out!
