"Drawing Your Portrait From Other's Poses"

by Jeph Johnson

She sit's in a pose
and I'm set to compose
and draw portraits overdue.
Sometimes I gaze
at your face in this maze
of confusing females that aren't you.
The glasses you wore
on her face look more
like a woman I never knew.
And short skirts in the sun
take all the fun
out of a life that's not lived with you.
Even your walk
she mimics lock stalk
and barrel and she can do
that roll with her eyes
but it doesn't excite
because her green eyes are blue.
I stumble and fall
'cause it's not at all
the composite image I drew
of all the good times
I've stored in my mind
that you've provided me true.
They're now falsified
and my pen's ink has dried
and all I can draw is a slew
of doodles surreal
I no longer feel
I only react for we're through.
