by Jeph Johnson
I dreamed I was awakened
By an alarm I never set.
This nightmare reacquainted me
With this girl I never met.
I reviewed the delusions
And the chaos of my dream
Seemed poised, peaceful and placid;
Almost tranquil and serene.
Stoked love was rekindled,
Slumber kept me up all night
And just like an unlit candle,
Provided me new light.
The words were left unspoken,
The memories unshared
Fractured hearts unbroken,
As if once we cared.
Alone I sit rereading
That book I'd never read
Reciting the same conversation
Once upon a time I never said.
Alert in my unconscious,
Clothed in my nakedness
This girl I never noticed
Saw me at my best.
My legacy and legend
Seemed faulty to her power
So bitter are one's salty tears
When relationships sour.
