Broken Chains

Folder:
August 2002 Poetry

Chains once held us all together,

but the pressure,

was just too much.

The chains that once bound this family,

now separate.

For we are in our own worlds.

Now, the chains that bind me,

won’t break,

and hold everything in.

I want to release.

How can I break these chains,

when I’m so weak?

Weak from the pain.

Weak from the crying.

The chains wrap around me,

I’m trapped in my own silence,

in my own pain,

without release.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this on 8-25-02.
It's about chains binding a family together, then the chains break, the family separates, but the pieces of the chain wrap around each person, and I can't break mine to release what I feel.
