Laughing At Hypoglycemia

Laughing At Hypoglycemia

Karyn Indursky

He sits there laughing at me
while my sugar continues to drop
and the sensations of a seizure increase
in my legs from the toes to the top.

He sits there laughing at me
while my sugar proceeds to plummet
and offers me nothing, but
a hollow ringing in my ears.

He sits there laughing at me
while my sugar plunges downwards
like an out of control elevator
on its crash course.

He sits there laughing at me
while my sugar soars lower
and I'm no longer coherent,
but I can hear him in the distance.

He sits there laughing at me
while my sugar swoops like a vulture
gobbling what's left of me,
but I'm trying not to pass out.

He sits there laughing at me
while my sugar lifts a little
after I somehow managed to obtain
some candy and protein.

He sits there laughing at me
while my sugar raises slightly
and in my mind I know
I've survived not with him, but alone.

He sits there laughing at me
while sugars finally balances,
but I've now learned that
he's just like almost everyone else.
