Face Value

Face Value

Karyn Indursky

I don't
seem to
make an impact
on people and things.
I don't
see most people
showing me
they care.
I hear them
say it, but
their actions
are hollow.
They are hollow.
They see me
at face value.
They don't know
what's in and on my mind,
what's in my heart,
what's behind my actions,
what's behind my words,
or anything of
substantial intelligence.
They
see and hear me
one way.
They don't know
the me
away from work,
away from coworkers,
away from customers,
away from managers,
away from the things
I choose to hide in.
They don't
see or hear or know of
anything
besides the
face value.
