I saw the girls come out to play,
And laugh and frolic in the yard,
Upon a grey yet warming day,
That shone with no measure upon the palm.
Their merriment did lift the heart,
That body before had given up,
And pressed me once to take the part,
Of caretaker of this ebullient stuff.
They did ride the might of a galloping steed,
And swirl in mists with lofty glide,
Up on my back there was the need,
And swinging in joy on the washing line.
My thanks to the youth and spirit seen,
Of the two children who came out to play,
That fills my heart when it does need,
In memory placed to warmly stay.
But I do know that they have returned,
Unto the world of growing up,
And for the favour to me turned,
I gladly to them raise my cup.
