Wheelin In

I

He'd been gone for less than an hour,

The serenades had subdued,

The sky it was a crystal tower,

There was glimpse of rising moon.

We'd told him not to sally,

The 'lights upon his course,

And to please avoid the valley,

For we'd heard there was some horse.

We had dined upon a sumptuous fare,

And drunk the Kelvinator dry,

So Bill had gone against the glare,

"`Eadin' for refills with a drive!"

So he'd grabbed a hand-ful of readies,

And an onion for the cops,

And a tea-towel for the door,

In case it needed to be mopped.

II

Someone had remarked on time,

Some looked towards the fridge,

I'd just taken a walk outside,

As Dan shouted "What's that on the ridge?!"

The crowd a' came a' surging out,

To what seemed to be a semi,

Like a flaming, giant snout,

Hog charging along the Levee.

An air-horn sounded up a roar,

As a mighty truck pulled up,

And jumping out the driver's door,

Bill screamed "Well boys we are in luck."

III

He boomed that when on heading in,

He'd stopped a truckie in his tracks,

Whilst burning rubber past the rig,

And show'n his arse without his dacks.

The truckster had pulled up the lad,

And out, bellowed he'd need these,

And with a nod and a wink like a Foster's add,

Had thrown to Bill the keys.

The truckie had had a gut busting laugh,

And wished to thank the ease,

With which Bill had  slipped past,

With bare arse and steering feet.

"I'd asked me-self," said Bill,

"What good's this bloomin' truck?

Then I saw the words "Mobile Still",

And shouted "Boys we are in luck!"

IV

"So I'd thrown the driver the keys of mine,

And'd said follow' up the hill,

And leapt into the cab to drive-,

Off, while he was laughing still."

"I heard him shout, driving away;

That the catcher's full,

S'been filtered through a barrel of hay!

So c'mon let's have a brew!"

A mighty cheer resounded the turn,

As Bill finally caught his breath,

And everyone thanked Bill's earn,

As we drunk ourselves to death.

What a saga. So that's what you guys do in Austrailia! I could just see it, especially the showing the moon (bum). Ha! Bill really hit the jackpot that time. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Rich. I had a laugh. Did me good.
