"Three-a-penny,"
"For a throw," he said,
"To knock the hats,"
"From the Bobbies' heads!"
My glasses steamed,
At such a sport.
Tuppenced glee,
Half 'a dozen balls.
I squinted and sighted,
Repeatedly thrown,
All six balls flighted,
At the cardboarded row.
The onlookers cheered,
As I turned around,
To see "Cats on Poppies."
I turned back with a frown.
That soon turned to shock,
When viewed police parade,
With some picking up helmets,
In anger and shame.
The crowd was in uproar,
And again glasses steamed,
As I heard a loud whistle,
Ah my train, time to leave!
