In the darkness of the night

When thou dost lay asleep;

Know you not that Jesus comes

Your spirit he doth keep.

For in the Psalm numbered four

We read at the eighth verse

How King David recorded this

A blessing, not a curse.

'I will lay me down in peace

and sleep; for thou Lord'

only makest to dwell in safety'
