Hanging Man

A lantern

nailed to a tree,

flame flickering

in the night breeze.

Rope tied off

and strewn

over a branch,

with a noose

too far

off the ground

to reach.

Me swinging

in the night air,

completely still

with hands

hanging by my side.

Peace at last

as I wait

to be found.
