Our World

2002 Poetry

The summer breeze caresses the trees,

not giving any thought to insects or disease.

The beauty we see is all we behold,

ignoring things that need to be controlled.

The same is true of this world in which we live.

Unfortunate, for ignorance will not forgive.

Ignoring what goes on around us will cost,

in ways you won’t miss till they are lost.

Things like environment, freedom, and love.

These are hard to comprehend being devoid of.

But like with trees there are forces at play,

to make them wither, die, and decay.

We pollute the environment with our own waste.

Too bad, for this planet cannot be replaced.

Keep dumping those toxins and see what we get.

A problem so deep we'll never get out of debt.

Forces are out there to prevent us from being free.

Just look to the past and learn from history.

Our eyes may open on some future dawn,

Finding our complacency has caused it to be gone.

Love can be lost but can save us too,

by loving our planet through and through.

Protecting our brothers so they're not enslaved,

will guarantee that freedom will ultimately be saved.

So watch the trees and enjoy your existence,

but please jump in and provide some assistance.

For we have the ability to control our fate,

By doing our part to keep this world great.
