Summer is the time for kids to play and have fun

For it's the time they have when the school year is done

Swimming, splashing, and going to the beach

These things during the year are just out of reach



A hose on the lawn is a magical thing

It's hard to believe the joys it can bring

Autumn, Winter, and Spring are OK

But nothings as good as running through the spray



The older kids hang, or may find a job

If they work hard their muscles can throb

Though physical work is hard, it's good for their growth

In body or mind and maybe just both



Those that are young need activities that are watched

By parents or councilors so things don't get botched

They still have fun playing in the summer heat

Sometimes going on a picnic with good things to eat



But alas summer is short and time runs out to soon

"It won't be long now" are the words from that great old tune

The season will be gone and the kids back off to school

With us able to relax in seasons that are more cool
