Jury Duty

Folder:
2002 Poetry

Twelve strangers together to judge

None of them coming in with a grudge

In fact, impartial they must continue to be

The truth they are there to be able to see

Listening to testimony with truths and lies

From people right in front of their eyes

Performing their duty deciphering the facts

It will be a while before they can relax

Day-after-day they sit in their box

Listening to some that are sly as a fox

Attempting to hide the truth from their sight

Their job is to separate wrong from the right

Responsible for the outcome no matter what

Sometimes the best tool they have is their gut

Doing this job they have only one shot

Deciding if someone is guilty or not
