Long time ago, my grandmother started to make a shot glass collection. She told me, she started to search for specific shot glasses when my mother was very young, even before I was born. That shot glass collection consists of having a shot glass from all the places that she or anyone from the family goes. When she visited Mexico City for work reasons, she bought a shot glass. When the complete family went to Mazatlán, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and some other beaches for summer vacations, she bought a shot glass in every city. And she did that for all the places that she visited. Later, my grandmother’s sons grew up and got into college, some of them went to another country to study abroad. They had to bring a shot glass to my grandmother from every place they visited because she would get very mad or sad. When my uncle got married he went to Jamaica for his honeymoon but he forgot to buy a shot glass. She was disappointed because he knew how much she loves her collection. Even I helped my grandmother in her shot glass collection. I went to a cruise some years ago and I brought her a shot glass from Cayman’s island, Cozumel and Bahamas. When my grandmother started the collection, she kept all her shot glasses in a table. Later, when she had accumulated a lot of shot glasses, she adapted a room with a bar and a big and beautiful showcase for all her shot glasses and a few favorite bottles. That room is like a small real bar, although it is just for decoration and for the shot glass collection. My grandmother takes a lot of care of that room. If she can, she cleans it at least once every 2 days so the room looks beautiful all the time. Nowadays, she still has that shot glass collection in a perfect condition. At first, I didn’t understand why my grandmother spent so much time taking care of that shot glass collection. Then, some months ago, I realized that she made the shot glass collection not only to show a big and beautiful collection, but also because it contains almost all the memories of her life. Memories of all of the places that she or someone of her family visited with happiness.
