Secrets

Turn on every light,

Dust off each table and shelf,

Shine the picture frames,

Show off  the knick knacks,

Never show my real self.

My life is an open book,

Sharing what you want to see,

My smile seems to tell all,

You’ll be my friend,

But I’ll hide the real me.

I’ll teach in Sunday School,

Sing loudly in the choir,

Greeting people at the door,

Shaking hands and a hug,

Hiding the inside fire.

The secret sin causes shame,

Cover it up becomes my goal,

Show my friends my goodness,

My laughter is what they hear,

It hides my piece of coal.

I asked God to forgive,

Brought my sin into His light.

My sin that was so secret,

I tried to keep it down,

Now through His blood, made right.

No longer the need to hide,

The shame is washed away,

Forgiveness has bloomed,

Healing the painful scar,

Strength from God, to stay.
