God's Family Picture

I watched the two of them,

The father's hand on the son's back,

This moment for now, and always,

  For this time together,

    Nothing they will lack.

A little girl runs to Daddy,

She hugs him, snuggles his cheek,

He kisses her head and smiles,

  A prayer for this love,

    Forever to keep.

A mother smiles at her tot,

As she bends down to tie his shoe,

He grabs her neck with sticky hands,

  She laughs as she looks,

    In his eyes so blue.

A picture we see daily,

Parental love shown to a child,

    The child adores the parent,

  The love, though gentle,

    Would never be called mild!

The picture of those who care,

Is our example of God's love.

    The Heavenly Father's for us,

  His caring and His giving,

    His peace, like a dove.
