Long Distance Relationship

You may have a long distance relationship, I bet
If you have traveled, moved from a loved one or use the internet
An ocean divides you both and there’s only a common moon above
But no matter the distance nothing is an obstacle to your love
He’s a real hunk or she’s all that
So you “talk” everyday on internet chat
But you’re tired all day long and you ache to the bones
Because you live so far away that you’re in different time zones
The fact that chatting is instant makes you stay awake
Long past your bedtime just for your love’s sake
But if you email a message or snail mail a letter
The time it takes you to get a reply seems like forever
Chatting is “talk light” (or so it should be known)
But to hear your real voices you have to use the telephone
Ah, and then your phone bills will increase!
And if you met on the net your loved one could be obese
And that’s where the internet comes in – they can be anyone
They can trap you with their fake picture and identity and then it’s hit-and-run
They can impress you with their profile and astound you with their fake groomin’
They can trick you into thinking they’re the perfect human
But whatever it takes, things can happen once you’ve met
Who knows? Maybe a long distance relationship is what you’ll get
An eventual long distance meeting may be scary
But some of these couples hope they will marry
Or what if you’ve lived near each other and you think your love will last?
But one of you left and you want your future to be like your perfect past?
So you continue your relationship though your miles apart
Instead of splitting up and getting a broken heart
Whether she went to Europe or he went down under
Your imagination plays tricks and you begin to wonder,
“Who’s she with now?” or, “Is he with the fairer sex?”
“Does she love someone else?” and, “Am I his future ex?”
So when you guys talk you’re no longer overjoyed
You’re suspicious, doubtful and paranoid
When you lived nearby your bond was strong
But when you’re far apart you don’t know if it can last that long
It’s painful to think what will happen to you in the future
Your wound is wide and bleeding but there is no suture
But have hope, it isn’t that scary
You never know – you might even marry
