  Filipino Christmas

It's the time to be happy so don't complain

It's Christmas Season in the Philippines again

Children get gifts under the tree

Parents take their kids to Jollibee

Santa gives presents to children of every race

How does he get down the chimney when there's no space?

I guess mom and dad let him through the front door

Because we never had a chimney before

So maybe in the Philippines Santa comes knocking

And leaves toys and candies in your stocking

We put up lanterns and Christmas lights

It's the holidays so we stay up late during the nights

To say it's all commercial I would disagree

We also remember Jesus at Simbang Gabi

It's a good time because there's colder weather

And a great opportunity for relatives to get together

Until January we won't have class

And on Christmas Eve we have Midnight Mass

The Pope also celebrates it at the Vatican in Rome

And we buy bibingka on the way home

Everywhere there are carnivals and fairs

Kids have fun and adults are without cares

Our parents serve Queso de Bola

And we buy games with money from lolo and lola

  Shoes, chocolates and a bike

Those are gifts we'd really like

Because this is the time to get lot's of gifts

  New shirts, dresses and handkerchiefs

It's a time we get to eat lots of food

But there's lots of traffic and why are the drivers rude?

But people are happy with holiday cheer

For kids it's the best time of the year

Author's Notes/Comments:

The sole purpose of writing this poem was to get published again. I figured What's On & Expat would publish it because it enlightens foreigners how Christmas is celebrated here. It's written in a kids point of view.
