Life is Still Good

Life is Still Good

Clark Steven Lupton

October 30, 2004

Life is good

Life is fine

I like living life

All the time

Life is great

This is true

Because most of the world is suffering

But not me and you

There are people freezing

They don’t have enough wool

There are people starving

But I am warm and full

There are people living in fear

And many are being attacked

But I live safe and secure

And that’s a pleasant fact

There are lonely people

There are people who are sick

There are people who die alone

But I am healthy and that’s no trick

There are people who are lacking

And people who are deprived

I think of all the people that die everyday

But at least I have survived

And I think of all the people who are poor

And all the people that are dying

If I said I wished it were me not them

Then you know I would be lying

Things are going my way

That is understood

As far as I’m concerned,

Life is very good

Author's Notes/Comments:

I've forgotten all about this poem! It came to me in our house Tagaytay when it was late and I was alone because everyone else was asleep. The first stanza was an old one in my head for most of the year so I wrote that down. Then I thought a real good reason my life is good is because I don't have it as bad as others. It was a simple matter of imagining suffering in life and rhyming them to the counterpart of good stuff in my life.
