Beyond The Dance Of Seasons
My left pocket has a little dust
two dimes
a nickel
and a penney
My right holds some folded bills
different variations of
past Presidents
who struggle to fill my gas tank
with prices soaring higher
than The Steve Miller Band's greatest hit.
But the one thing that will never be empty
is my heart
the way I feel about you
Doesn't require money
all it takes is love
and I am
saturated
soaked
drenched
in your beautiful love
and I will always drown
in the sweet of you.
My right back pocket carries a wallet
credit cards that have seen too many slides
receipts for flowers sent
because simply
I Love You
a drivers license that helps me
get home to you and our family
My left back pocket still feels your hand
the one you use to slip inside
when you have your arms around me
It has many memories of chilly nights
standing outside with the fire
God how I loved your fingers in there
when I pressed you close
and our lips found depths of kisses
far deeper than the dance of tongues
swept away in the heat of winter.
A little more than fourteen months
five seasons growing closer to the sixth
money has come and gone
clothes changed and washed
but the one thing that will always remain
are the last three words
I say to you every night
and the first three
I whisper every morning
"I Love You"
and forever awaits us
beyond the years to come
and that My Love, will never change
in the wings of our destiny
