"Aftermath"

Aftermath

I always knew the ocean rush inside of you
never a wave came crashing without your thunder
Storms were in your nature
and I prayed for your rain every night
dreaming that when I awake
the sun would never burn again
In the face of the fire where we lay scorched
beneath a bed of broken promises

Midnight was the birth of our love
you were never more beautiful than when under the stars
Heaven rose with each look from your eyes
Evergreen became more than a song
as your beauty beheld me
Raging the tide we were riding
wrapped up together in satin surrender
Now slain in shattered pieces
torn from our own hands

Yesterday seems like a moment ago
yet forever on my knees
I'm looking up into the universe where we once flew
Trying to understand why the winds died
Searching for answers where I can't even find the questions
I know this isn't a war, yet I've lost the battle
Lost love
Losing everything
Always left wandering
Between here and there
The middle of nowhere
Where I can't find my way out

You are long gone, faded from view
and I sleep with rust stripping my heart
in the pouring of my own rain.
Tomorrow comes with dark clouds
yet the sun hurts in the blinding of its heat
I can't hide afterall
it burns no matter what happens
Just the way it is
in life and love
And everything between
