he looked into my eyes
a man so utterly lost
sad beyond the myth
of what he believed
all those previously long years
that his life should be
a crack in the armor
to this tower of male strength
layers of false foundations
so gradually falling away
a wealth of more than mere
humanity itself finally
breaking free
revealing the sheer golden glow
of pure human fragility
a man alas unburdened
and living
finally living for the first time
for himself and not for others
relying upon him to fulfill for them
their idea of the dream
the word 'can't' no longer
a term in his immediate vocabulary
so with the world as his oyster
off he walks
to confront that particular sea............
