words are a poet's gasoline
put the right words in a poem
and the flame burns hotter
the body of the work
reads stronger
nuances are more fully felt
corners are more classically turned
a multitude of talents come into
clear and certain play
though the author's name
may slip from the reader's mind
the words will linger tall
like some handsome unforgettable
stranger
as if almost omnipresent to the
mind's indulgent eye
a tender box of events may be
selected and artfully shared
draping the universal experience
in clothing of a particular slant
chosen fortuitously by the poet's
deliberate relationship to the subject
at hand
poems are personal
poems written impersonally
go against the will of what a poem
should be
poems are orphans that never forget
their true mothers
they are sent out into the world
more beautiful
for the damage they have been made
to endure
being a poet
makes me better understand
the necessity for writing a memorable poem
one that will take the world not by storm
but by sunny day
and turn the harmless clouds floating by
into a hurricane
nobody ever saw coming
as malcontent as it is powerful
we remember the impact of such a poem
and tell everyone we know about its words'
ability to touch us
in ways we never imagined it could................
