happy observation blooms
within the confines of the mind
upon first peripheral notice of
a former miserly tract
along highway 79
sprouting brilliant color
amid tidily mowed fresh green
spring tulips and marigolds galore
today the happiest drive I took
bathed as my tired eyes were
in 'Petaled Fields'
so scrumptiously floral.................

Author's Notes/Comments:
I used a bit of poetic license in this piece. Many times I have traveled highways and at one time they are bland and without much color or scenery (especially I noticed this particular beautification cropping up along North Carolina highways) and then I'll pass by that same "MISERLY TRACT" of land once again and be surprised to see that the state road people have planted whole gorgeous swaths of brilliantly bright blooms for the driving motorists to bear witness to and get some optical joy from. This very thing happened not long ago to me when I was heading towards Lexington, NC one afternoon. I've forgotten the name of that particular lone stretch of highway I was on so in this poem I selected highway 79 to shine my poetic light upon but that was the particular snapshot in my mind that I was extracting this poetic idea from.Enjoy..............
