'Poetry Is Like'
conversations we've left behind
with ourselves
with others
why with God even
but with that demonic voice of the ego
constantly bickering within us
we limp away with our word entrails
all a tatter
creating havoc in the core
of our very beings
moments like these
are miserly minions
they see not the broadness of the
universe
the diversity of evolution
nor the wisdom of experience
they only see the aching wounds
being further ravaged
by reflections of reflections
we think we know
but in the final push for our
finest enlightenment
we finally learn
we never really had
we just perceived a knowing
that was not true to
the purity of each our

You pose an interesting and
You pose an interesting and challenging question here, there are many views kaleidoscopicaly speaking, I put very much of myself in my work, yet I can also see the cheap attempts and also the deeply honest sincerity of one trying ineptly to convey a meaning. I have been all of these. The higher self is a creative force. The kind of energy that unfurls fronds and colors butterfly wings. But some of us have seen ourselves in truth for what we are. Be it a mirror or a fantastical scape... My question is do you mean some or all poetry? Interested to hear more of your ideas :)

P.S. 2
What you perceive as cheap attempts at poetry could just be new poets who are not yet as advanced. Go read my early stuff in Journal #1. I bet you could not tell back then with the stuff I was writing that I would evolve like I have. One of those cheap attempts written that you read may one day in our elder years turn out to later become one of the finest poets this century has ever known. Funny thing is, if Post Poems is around then many will with advanced technology be able to read disparaging comments others made early on about such later well known poets and laugh and think wow he or she sure got that wrong. One man's cheap attempts is another 's evolutionary road to a deeper knowing. Man with his limited insight is of no position to judge that is why we have that saying, Do not judge another until you have walked a mile in his shoes. Anyway, I saw that on the second read through from you and wanted to add that reply. I see poems too that are shall we say less than stellar but who am I to judge. Look at the paintings by Van Gogh he couldn't give them away many thought they were absolute trash and wouldn't take them now they are worth billions collectively. Imagine if you could bring one of those people who got one of his paintings as a gift for free and tell them this how stupid they would feel. Is the same lesson just in a different package. I'll read more of your work SSmoothie I do enjoy your writing. Again most sincerely, Melissa Lundeen.
Yes but I myself have written
Yes but I myself have written these and I can honestly say mine are sometimes ego and sometime more. We all have many sides. Shallow writes can be avantguarde that's fine too if someone finds artistry my cheap shot poetry that's fine marcel Duchamp is a case in point. Many sides neither is more right or wrong just different. :)

I couldn't agree more ..........
I am forever in conversation spouting there really is no right or wrong just different ways one does something. I never knew who said that but I was certain someone had said that long before I ever did. Thank you for giving me a name to put to that thought. See, you just taught an old bitch ( mean female dog only here winks okay?) a new trick. I Love it! I'll have to contemplate on your other post here about the astral stuff. Let my cranky old mind marinate those ideas a bit and I'll get back to you, again thanks for reading and responding. It always makes me smile when people not only read my poems but actually take the time to make a comment on them. Is like catching someone in that rat trap brain of mine. Is very satisfying.........Sincerely, Melissa Lundeen.

To answer your question ..............
I strongly believe none of us fully know our true selves. We get glimpses and we take those and fill in the blanks as best as we can. Of course most everyone has a sense of themselves but starting on the basis that one believes they possess a soul. That soul is quite unknown to us. I know I have a soul and I account all that is good in my life to the guidance of my soul and the good parenting I received from my beloved Mother while growing up but we have free will in these vehicles and many as you know go on and do things they know are wrong whether it's merely lying about something small just so we don't have to face up to the conflict telling the truth would entail or to the extreme of murder or some other heinous crime. All poetry is written by fallible people. Some are spiritually inspired but it's the fallible human that interprets what is being given so through those channels there can be mistakes made unknowingly about what was given and what was actually received to be understood at this end of the process plus we react to others reflections of themselves not their true self. Here is where the watcher and the thinker come into play. The watcher being the soul the thinker being the ego. We write through the hand controlled by the ego but sometimes it's ideas from the watcher that come through ere the higher self but the ego always has final choice to use exactly what the watcher has sent or to put it's own personal touch on that. I have personally evolved a lot but I still have to work at keeping my own flawed ego in check. I think many of my poems reflect me doing just that or rather trying to suspend my ego as best as I can. Sometimes for some people I am sure it's like trying to take a pure clean drink of water from a dirty stream. That would be my best simplest summation. Thank you both for your comments. I enjoy reading both of your works. I also enjoy this interaction greatly. Sincerely , Melissa Lundeen
P.S. I hope I didn't come off as a huge blow hard writing this reply.
If so , I do sincerely apologize.
Not at all, :) what about
Not at all, :) what about astral travel? Do you know much about this? I believe this comes into play a lot, glimpses are more like views for me. Intuition is the most under utilized human gift, it is not merely a fight or flight response, it is subliminal, and instinctive and there are many other psychologies at play, but psychology alone does not explain the phenomenon of precognition, premonistions or apparitions and many other contested ideas. I myself don't feel particularly delusional about; not what I've seen;but indeed what I know and have experienced. I am functional and normal, though only my closest friends know anything more than normality about me. I am however deeply spiritual and very accepting of people's truths. But the third eye is not a comfortable token of enlightenment intact it is quite horrible to experience and control. I dont think it much fun being a spiritual swining doorway. I am mindful there are also many crackpots out there, however, there isn't many cultures without spiritual beliefs. But I suppose glimpses depends on the definition of higher self, plane, realm or dimension. Food for thought :)
