TRIBAL THUG

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

sweet encompassing depth
how you so tenderly capture me
with but one riveting look
the realities those eyes can reveal
verses the heat that mouth itself
could compel
energy
strength and grace
gallop thoughts from my brain
to my own heart beat
courageous warriors
the lot of your ancestors
call out to that fire woman in me
from every stern line in your
features and face
your heritage bellows volumes
from the impressive pool of genes
God has carried over through the
millennium just so to place
them here in the composition of
your own unique physical attributes
you are warrior and protector
but you are a tender lover
and a profound thinker too
the world you explore
not so to conquer nor own
but more so to improve the man
who cares enough to sift through
its lessons lain in litter behind
all his ancestor's foot paths
and my full respect for you
comes born of just that
honed even as it were
to compliment the
physical impurities
that gradually evolved out
until there came this modern day
intellectual warrior called you
though sweet as that nick name
for you is
'Tribal Thug' is truly a step down
yet I know in my adoration of its use
you can allow the title to stand
but only privately between us
from now on ..................

Author's Notes/Comments:

I have to admit here that I am playing a bit fast and loose with a documentary I happened to watch a few nights ago on a sub station of my television. Was about a man who asked a woman to marry him she said no, so he was sort of sucked almost into joining a militia of sorts and when the woman found out I guess she realized she really did love him and she was able to lure him out of the clutches of what could have been a very bad choice and he and his family were so thankful to her. Though the phrase Tribal Thug never came up I still got the feeling that was how she felt about the fellows he was thinking of joining like they were a band of tribal thugs and it so fit the poem so I used that as those two words after watching that story, were the catalyst to this poem. I put myself in her place and wrote this poem about him like he was the man I love. He was a fierce handsome guy just a bit misguided after she refused his proposal I suppose. I always love rooting for the underdog and I guess this poem was my way of doing just that. Enjoy!
