A STRANGE HAPPENSTANCE

Folder:
JOURNAL # 40

middle of the night
a misaligned meteor streaks by
to think a sight so breathtakingly
beautiful to the human eye
is but some galactic particle
being incinerated across
a vast expanse of the earth's sky
'A Strange Happenstance'
bothering so little as it died
revolutions of the fittest
perhaps
little more than a silly concept
twisted that I stole from Darwin
such big thoughts drone ever on
in my simple, tiny brain
as among the tranquil stillness
I gallop my mind's imaginary might
to tickle Orion as his arrow he
aims to shoot
or moving on to pull a thorn from
the big bear's burly foot
as the little bear looks on curious
but careful
Andromeda stands back with her
smile sweet, but eyes smarting tearful
Cygnus looks proud
he knows he's quite impressive and
unforgettable
but I must head back
for my life is perpetually earth bound
I trip over the big dipper as I hastily leave
and marvel that my celestial faux pas
made not even one little sound
the silence in the night sky
is nearly as amazing as it is
startlingly profound
no matter how hard  that is to conceive
wait
why be so shocked by a silly galactic trekker
it's all part of heaven
so peace must surely radiate all around...............................

Author's Notes/Comments:

was gazing at the night sky a few minutes ago as I was taking my dogs out for their nightly ritual and I saw a shooting star so my imagination raced with a hodgepodge of child like imaginations of that and what my grandma would always tell me when I saw a shooting star I was to make a wish so my wish formed to be for a little while part of the night sky and interact with some of my most favored characters of its constellations and this poem was born of that..
