LIBYA'S REVOLT

Folder:
JOURNAL # 40

too many variables
coming into play
dragging the world stage
farther and farther into the fray
even more players entering
this dangerous game
of playing with human life
upon the request of immediate
fearful neighbors not wanting
refugees hiding out over
their borders' each domain
has all the earmarks of despair
painting such terrible pictures
of suffering and pain
people want their God given
rights for freedom
and a blood thirsty dictator
wants in return
their blood so to
further humiliate and
defeat them
a country seething in rage
at the massive wounds
brought on from
40 plus years
of suffocating oppression
such held down individuals
see their brothers in Tunisia
and Egypt rising to reclaim
their dignity
and they want for themselves
those very same concessions
only to themselves then be
blood bathed
for wishing for a future
where they too can be
moderately free
the world turns its eyes to
quickly blame outside forces
but should those outside forces
have not stepped in to act
they would then doubly be blamed
for doing too little
asking why did you let this happen
and not step in to give some protection
to innocent civilians being
daily slaughtered and maimed
it's perpetually a situation of
damned if you don't
damned if you do
that only conflict seems to have the
teeth to sort out the many boiling
over issues
I understand a country of people
rising to gain some freedom and
respect
they have that right to oust
a rabid rat
but do so without politics
and or hidden agendas
remember those you are trying
to help
and leave for them a viable
country intact
and to the inhabitants who pleaded
for the help
a no fly zone you said was not enough
war is hell
not precise surgery
good and bad people will die
on either side's territory
even you had to know this
mistakes will happen
but to stay as you are
and give up the fight now
the end for you would only be
so much the worse
my heart and thoughts and prayers
ever go out to you
noble risers for justice there in Libya
the rabid rat will abandon ship
soon I feel too
and your country returned to you
to be more comfortably built
for the people
and not those brutal few
who only wish to
hold you down
and further exploit your
beloved populations and land..................

Author's Notes/Comments:

I have been watching and reading from a variety of news sources all around the world and wanted to write something about the situation in Libya but so much was happening it was such a flowing/changing situation every day that I felt I had to get some perspective and let some time pass before I could give it an adequate over view for myself. Plus I have to admit I didn't feel a poem in me until today. This is what finally formed. In any situation like this I always remain on the people's side I just pray that like Tunisia and Egypt Libya too can come out of this and have a free country with elections and no more dictator who keeps oppressing them. It's hard as an American seeing other countries so oppressed. It goes against so much in us as we have so many freedoms and rights. That ranting rabid rat has had his boot at those people's throats for far too long I just pray that they can oust him and have fair elections and some worse force doesn't hijack their country when its in the rubble of civil war and situate some worse individual in to be their leader who will do them worse harm. I like to believe that they have had enough of such treatment and will do all they can to see that, that does not happen by allowing elections committees from the international community to come in and help them setup fair and free elections and prevent voter tampering and fraud but for now I just pray that this all ends well to the will of the Libyan people and their children have the rights and freedoms that their parents did not have and for once the people can enjoy some of the oil wealth their country has and not just the higher ups who siphon it from off the top leaving the people to languish in such extreme poverty.
