FOR THE EYES OF EGYPT

Folder:
JOURNAL #33

people

my dear people

struggle not so

for self

God sees you

where you are

your plight is his

to bestow

all is not lost

even when it seems

it is just that

despair is a tool

we are tested and retested

out of love

why, look to the poorest of

the poor

and you will find seedling sprouts

of complete Joy

worldly abundance is not a

replacement for that

it never could even dream to be

my own life has its quandaries

there is strife at any level

no one is immune

not even the wealthiest of

individuals

if they were immune

then millionaires would

never think to commit suicide

nor become drug addicts

or get arrested for rape or murder

but these things do happen

further proof of their lack

of immunity to the too common

troubles of man

certainly it is not wrong nor a crime

to strive for a better foot hold

on this earth

but not at the expense of idleness,

anger and deep seated hate

that festers in your soul

for peace in the heart

just look to those around you

near and far

who are not so fortunate even as

yourself

for if one really looks

he can always find

another individual far below

himself

looking up at his own station

in this life

with such unabashed envy and hope

my grandmother always said

do not fret over what you perceive

that you don't have

for there is always someone you can

look to who has far less than you, yourself

I, to this day take that to mean

" Count Your Blessings!"

so my dear Egypt, glance for just a moment

if you will to your Muslim Brothers in Africa

if you even whisper the names Darfur, Congo,

Rwanda, Goma  and Kenya

how easily your own plight seems less tragic

than the five million plus people there

butchered to death

for what

and the umpteen thousands displaced and left

without homes, piled high in refuge camps

with no clean water to drink and cholera

galore

all symptoms caused by a war that appears to

have no end for its voracious need of death

and human bloodshed

take a long hard look and then

decide if your own life is soooooo terribly

awful by comparison.............

inspired by an article I read in the Sunday paper of
The New York Times today about high unemployment and young men who couldn't find good jobs and buy homes and marry.
