old friends claim such an enormous part of the soul
so perfectly victim less
is their supposed good ship advice
we blanket such friendships nearest to our happy
hearts
so closely cherished are they
they and their fishing line threads that weave
themselves so irrevocably throughout our linear lives
a true friend is after all never forgotten nor for
that matter forsaken
as true friends are indeed dearest when the flames
of life's little injustices grow fiercest in its
precarious height
the word friend for some can all too easily
substitute the wondrous feeling that encompasses
the word love
now those people I could sit back and admire
for months
why, the tireless fascination would become the
pearl of my pride
for some of the truest, deepest, most remarkable
loves I've ever known have been friends
undeniable friends
dear patient friends whom to this very date I am
blessed to know
that they do love me just so
lovely men and women who have known me so well
and yet grew to love me all the same
and stood by me through the harshest sunlight
and most unapologetic rain
these so beloved individuals shall forever remain
a precious part of me
like a favorite song revisited or a treasured
passage in a book
they too shall live perfectly recaptured in me
always
from before to here on out
my fondest wish could only be the same
that I am permitted to live on in them as well
just so
etched in their warmly aged memories
as the Lord did for Moses
with his eternal flame.................
