I grew up pretty easy during the 70's
in a quiet, medium sized town of about 35,000
we got as kids pretty much what we wanted
which back then never seemed like all to much
to us
I laugh at that ridiculous notion though today
Christmas was always a hoot for us
I swallowed the whole Santa and his Elves bit
clear down to the last reindeer
Rudolf
my brother, on the other hand
caught on long before me and then there after
only pretended to believe
where as Cindy my next to oldest sister was
so quick to defend Santa's hoggish habits of
gobbling down our happily offered milk and cookies
which we so gigglingly loved
a proud supporter of the tradition was she
also chief in charge of decorating our family
Christmas tree
where as my oldest sister Wendy
all that traditional stuff
she was far too above
I can not recall any particular Christmas in
question
not that they each were not so special
they just tend to run together and become one
overall collective memory
which is better than remembering nothing at all
though, I suppose
I still can recall the sleds, the wagons,
the roller skates, hoola hoops and pogo sticks
along with play dough and dolls I received
of course all the childhood photographs with most
Christmases captured
aid in the general reminiscing
future Christmases will likely be better preserved
with video cameras and such around to record the
occasion and not just still colored photographs
to keep and collect
but Christmas will will always remain the same in
at least one aspect
its a special day set aside to celebrate the birth
of our Lord forever
So, Happy One Thousand nine hundred and ninety fourth
Birthday Jesus
may your day always be Merry................
