LITTLE MASTERS OF MISCHIEF (journal #11)

Buttons and Sole Squeals

two little white tailed rascal rabbits

from

Farmer Ned's fields

were the naughtiest of hoppers

that you could ever wish to meet

they did as they pleased

the both farthest from shy

as with each other they dearly loved

to compete

he more than willing to out do the other

as he try

they would track dust from out of the coal box

and then unkindly walk all over the sleeping

old lazy fox

making of him such a horrible mess

that when he woke up later all he could do was

guess

just who did this?

and poor old hunter Ed

who should have known better than to go to bed

with his windows unlocked

open and up

for ornery Buttons held the curtain aside

as Sole Squeals that mischievious fur ball

let in the mean old wolf's youngest pup

wondering where he, they could hide

and everyone even in town bounded rudely awake

when old snoozin' Ed became so scared

that he ran out of the house tripping down the

steps through the yard and fell right in the lake

screamin' and screamin' like he had been nabbed

by a demon

not much later that morning the partners in crime

gave a loud yawn

as the feisty youngsters' fun was over

for night had fled into dawn

and they both needed to get back to their burrows

to get their little bunny beauty rest

for later that afternoon was indeed a new day

and Farmer Ned would be expecting them to put

his patience yet again to another test

so, in their little hay beds as the sun broke

they fell fast asleep

dreaming of the next time they awoke

and what other mischief they could hope to get

themselves into so deep................
