as a far too impressionable child
I use to often wonder
just what was up on the hill
across the street
and if I ventured alone very far up
its intimidating banks
what terrible yet unimaginable harm
would I likely meet
if there was indeed such a thing as
a bogey man in those daring carefree days
he was likely no more than an outrageous
figment of a frightened child's over active
imagination
I vaguely recall someone once telling me
Did you know that childhood is little more
than a creative part of life's special
initiation?
looking back rather fondly now
I think I tend to believe them................
