my dear Afzal
what would you have me write for you
if indeed I could write such said letter
perhaps you would enjoy a sonnet
filled with such life and breath of this poet
or rather be enveloped by a breeze of words
expressed in a calypso manner
a tell tale heart tips only so far over
before it must somehow right itself again
we live in the blessings of our words
enchanters are we
with the joy of this age old craft
soul conspirators from line to line
it would seem you and I are at least that
we met in a baron field of type talking
and constructed a friendship out of
the inter weaving of thoughts and moods
we swapped histories and shared affections
for life and its ever changing furniture
around us
and we bowed to a greatness far greater than
ourselves
this we did graciously and
with purpose and melancholy
we conversed
and from each other we learned
a new kind of poetry
that of which only two poets can share
the meter and rhyme that makes
all friendship work
you and I achieved this without fan fair
nor preamble
its amazing when you think about it
where there once was nothing
two friends emerged
better ( at least I would like to believe)
for having met each other
and shared all the finer bits of self
that make a person memorable
in another's new eyes
so I thank you for that Afzal
knowing you has become an
unexpected gift to my soul
and writing this was my gift back to your's ........
