JOURNAL#31

sweet Bessie Jane
how you could sure sing
sweet Texas prairie flower
that you were
how you rose up
a musical power house
you took that sunrise in your voice
to heart
and courted the world
with your bourbon drenched vocals
until the ears of rock and roll wept
altered only slightly by
the haunting strain of
your crushed violets face
as those mother earth hips swayed
to a careless old jig
in a hippie's form of dress
so, where is your Bobby McGee now?
crying at your grave side
or humming a bar or two somewhere
from your old song book
and telling the world
that he was once your one true man
on that accidental path of yours
to wondrous discovery
you lost your strange uncertain footing
and to the shock of the world
it lost you
but losing is a relative thing
especially when
the essence of you
ever lives on
the love and the loss
the bend and the strain
the regret and the heartache
that bleeds so beautifully
through your voice
into all your songs
though wild and irreplaceable
as you were
in our hearts
and in our ears
you shall always remain
a fiery dove
forever flying on
who left her nest behind
for all of us to share
in her songs...........
