MISGUIDED GRIT

Folder:
JOURNAL #29

such unrepentent human waste

so filthy unfair and foul

for far too much tragedy

hardly worth dying for

through flesh-ed sacrifice

unatoned

too many got blungeoned

maimed

blown up

or butchered

for all too little

yet history

faithful teacher that she is

continues to march them home for us

more clearly drawn than a map of Dixie

itself

knowing what we do now

it hardly seems fit to have labeled it

a CIVIL war

our brothers to the south

kindly look upon such loss of one's

senses and humanity

as "The Past Unpleasantness"

which is wholely laughable

when it was the bulk of their innocent youth

that was ground into the muddy earth

with cannons bullets and even bayonets

when necessary

leaving their bloated disfigured bodies

to swelter and stink in the battle ground

meadows of the day

I don't agree with their reason to fight

but seeing their plight brought to life

in the movie Cold Mountain

made me admire their misguided grit

a little more........

Author's Notes/Comments:

saw the movie Cold Mountain and for the first time I got a pretty good idea of what it must have been like to be a soldier on the confederate side in a major battle. It was pretty dreadful.
