MARS

Folder:
JOURNAL #28

11pm

darkness

in a deep cup

MARS

that red dusty lolly pop

to the right of my moon

a vivid re-entrance

into  the night sky

the layman's eye

here to flow

overwhelmed

60,000 years

in the cycle of

your return

the neanderthals

waved goodbye to you last

my breath seems trapped

forever in the entire incredibleness

of the whole idea

I just saw the planet mars

900 million ( or some such) light years

from us here in the night sky

with my own two eyes

I've never seen any other planet

in the night sky before

with telescope, benoculars or

otherwise

though stunned by the beauty

this facination took a little while

longer to truly set in

and solidify

never thought I'd be able to say this

but me and the neanderthals

we witnessed the same rare beauty

only difference

I knew it was mars

(thanks to the news casts)

and they didnt

still it was something

well worth mentioning

this....(loss for some words here)

this cosmic focus of avid attention

on a tiny pink blip in the sky

Mars

you had me at WOW!
