I think I've always had love and poetry in my life
even when I really didn't write
there was poetry in playtime
the long ago lyrics of laughter and skipping
the clever meter in which the school bus hummed
its way to school
the sonnet like snoring of the family dog
sleeping on the shaded porch
us children never tired of wearing our mother's sixth child out
colors and shapes used to talk to me
there was so much life unfolding
before my young eager eyes
freedom and vitality
they frolicked and climbed with me
to the highest limbs
fear and doubt back then
could never seem to keep up
as they knew so little of a child's antics and love
I can still hear some memories laughing
the jungle Jim's, teeter totters and playground swings
creaking out in their own form of Morse code
some reminiscent notes of untouched innocence
that's never completely gone
it leaves us
but only if we let it go
well, I, for one
shall never let mine go
those beautous, precious, perfect memories too
for they are irreplaceable
unrepurchaseable components of
my life
my love
and yes
above all else indeed
my poetry
