'My Mother Marches On For Me'
for my and my siblings purpose
she finds her elderly will to be
deep within the very spirit of herself
she is suffused with the awareness
that her children need her still
since a farm is hardly a farm without
the farmer around
for the soil to be tilled
my mother gladly accepts and greets
all whom she is introduced to meet
with generosity of spirit and genteel grace
my mother is gregarious, polite
and so very clever
yet courteous, countrified and kind
she is by far more humbled than a common
worker bee
my mother has seen what few still left have seen
born at the height of The Great Depression
my mother's family struggled when times were lean
with her cat feet in slippers
she ginger foots about the house
with her worn housecoat uniform minutely swishing
her presence alone makes this place so much more
my home
simply because she resides here with me
the home she purchased so very long ago
for we her children and she
infused with her being are all my childhood
accomplishments, memories and dreams
my mother is the family's steadfast anchor
why her being is the skeletal construct of the
familial ship upon this life giving sea
for us, her children she is the very ocean itself
in which we have relied upon since each our own
birth
for without her we would not be
for with the guidance of her tides we have been
able to sail onward through adulthood
most productively
solid and ever learning just as its meant to be
I always dread and fear the Tsunami of her
eventual death
that terrible one day
that I know is bound to eventually come to one day
be
yet in my overwhelming grief my soul will adhere to
the knowledge that one day again soon myself
with her and all the rest I will reside eternally
please just know
I love you so,
My sweetest Mommy............
