BEHOLD THE WORLD MY EYES HAVE SEEN

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

In my life
I have gotten to do a lot of things
I got to go up in a rebuilt two seated
bright canary yellow Red Baron plane
and fly low to the ground and see
the earth from the view point of a bird
Yes, I've been as thus blessed
I've seen ocean water so blue
that you would swear you are
in a dream just to be seeing it
cause you never knew such water
really existed in the world
and sadly I have witnessed poverty
so harsh that it makes you feel
guiltily blessed for all that you have
by comparison
and you know that particular sadness
will never leave you
not really
It will forever dwell deep down
behind your innermost aching being
and then the eyes get to behold
the absolute vastness that is
The Grand Canyon
and it comes home to your heart
a tiny inkling
of just how much more massive
God must be by comparison
to think as you look out at such
enormous, tireless, open beauty
that he created this too
as he created this small creature
gazing upon it now called me
from so many angles
beauty and reality in all forms
assail
and you come to realize
that for the soul
earth is a cruel wonderland
necessarily inhabited for the
better evolution of humanity
and the spirit behind that
which powers such movement.......

Author's Notes/Comments:

I got to thinking earlier while watching television how blessed I'd been to see some of the wondrous and sad things I've got to see in my life's time. This poem was born of those particular ponderings.
