~Fish, Whales, and Sometimes Ashes~
Gayla owned a boat she would use to take groups of people deep sea fishing and whale watching. She always kept her boat nice and clean and would have her deckhand hose and brush it down after each trip.
Once in a while someone would charter her boat to take the ashes of a deceased loved one out to be tossed into the ocean. There would usually be a brief ceremony and maybe petals of flowers tossed over the side of the boat along with thoughtful words. Most of the time the mourners were what Gayla would refer to as "land lubbers," and had very little knowledge of sea-going ways, including how things tossed over the side of boats should be deposited with the wind, not against it, so after all was done and Gayla returned her charter to the dock she would put her boat on its mooring near the middle of the harbor while the deckhand began to scrub using the deck hose and long-handled brush which he used to push ashes stuck to the side of the boat into the green, murky water of the harbor and make the boat nice and clean again.
