Twelve Disciples of Kasa

Betwixt and between

all of us have been

but we review our mission

for the sake of tomorrow

when the rains shall come

How many remember?

the roaring harsh weather

sailing through the waters of induction

what came hereafter-

a deceitful contraption

betrayed by the words of the guide

we bought the dummy

we fell to the heavy tide

the ocean of justice yelled in agony

Agony of service-

where one becomes a slave

In the rock of crisis-

our human rights we crave

we that labored on 'Kasa'

know the game better

we went to fight on 'Kasa'

without the bullets to fire.

O! ye that hold command

recall the words of the right hand

'for both hands to be clean'

give regard to the left hand

It takes two to play

to build a happy day

and these be the pellets we leave for thee

that one day all may clearly see

what goes around surely comes around

Let's hit the ground.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem exposes the slavery workers in an oil corporation were subjected to.They were assigned to function in various locations of a country without out-of-station allowances. They were urged by their mgt team to 'hit the ground'- which meant proceed to their reassigned posts. They made the first step by obeying and traveling, but returned two days later to protest and demand their rights of service which they got in partial amounts after a gruelling time of quarreling and debating with mgt. The word 'kasa' in Hausa language means ground, linking it up with what the mgt urged them to go do, "Go hit the ground", let work begin deceptively assuring them of welfare services that they found out on getting to their posts did not exist.
