Recipe for Disaster

She strolls through the mall with Him

and runs into a few old friends -

all Girls -

of course

It’s impossible to go anywhere without meeting another ex.

It’s funny, at times

when She convinces herself to ignore the looks of longing

in their jealous eyes

but when they catch her off guard

She can almost feel their lust

as they remember what they used to have

and continue to desire.

Is it insecurities?

She asks herself every time.

But she knows it’s not.

She knows he would never leave her.

What drives her to madness

is the knowledge that

these Girls will stop at nothing

to get what they want -

or receive a bone-crushing hug again

to see if his muscles are still there.

It’s the fact that

they only have eyes for Him

and they force her into the shadows -

at least they try to

It’s the complete disappointment that flashes across their eyes

when She stumbles out from behind a clothes rack

and walks calmly up to Him

and he puts his arm around her.

It’s the barely noticeable

flick of their eyes

as they regard with disgust

his hand on her waist.

It’s the wish you can hear

lingering in the air

as each Girl thinks to herself

“What a lucky girl”.

And Luckily

it is that wish that keeps her from going ballistic

every time they run into another shrill voice

proclaiming

“OhmygodIhaven’tseenyouinforever!”

It is that wish that keeps the

Jealous Green Giant at bay

because otherwise

there might be too many broken noses to get away with unnoticed…
