The one thing that comes to my mind whenever someone mentions my grandfather is a pen, his pens; he always has a pen in his shirt’s front pocket. Wherever he goes, he always carries a pen with himself. I have noticed that he uses it to underline or make annotations; he likes to write while he reads. I remember since I was a little kid that he always brings a pen to wherever he goes, he would write in the space that a book has in its pages, then he would try to make me understand what he was reading and at the same time what he was writing. He’s always taking notes, whether he’s writing on a book, a newspaper, a magazine, or anything that he reads and can write on. I think he writes down what he thinks is something useful or good for any reason, because he likes to give the books to his daughter, my mom and my aunts, once he has finished reading it, also to me and my cousins. This because he says that he wants to prepare all of us, the family, to be good, decent persons in this life; he gives the books with notes to us, because he wants us to learn with his example, with everything he has lived throughout his life. Whenever someone mentions or I think about my grandfather, the first thing that comes to my mind is a pen. He also likes to collect pens, it’s not just the fact that he always writes, he likes to collect pens, whenever he goes to any place for the first time, he always buys a pen as a souvenir, he likes to have good quality pens. He buys Mont Blanc, Aurora, Cross or Camlin, when an ink filter runs out, he changes it himself. He is a big pen fan, he likes the good, elegant pens, I even remember he once told me that you can say much about a person by the type of pen he uses, when he signs contracts or checks. Since I was a child, I have seen my grandfather with a pen wherever he goes and I think that is one thing that he values a lot, he is pretty special when talking about many things, like watches, suits, glasses, but the most special thing for him is a pen, he takes really good care of all of his pens, and he just loves to buy pens.
