Best Gift Of All
I expected a gift on my birthday.
When it came, then I wasn't surprised--
A lovely green sweater and skirt suit,
Exactly my color and size.
Long before Christmas I hinted
For the present you bought just for me.
And as soon as I saw the small package,
I knew what was under the tree.
But the gift I will always remember
Didn't come wrapped in paper or bows.
It was given in love's spontaneity,
One handpicked and precious red rose.

Author's Notes/Comments:
I wrote this many years ago and it is strictily fiction.
My exhusband used to give me the best gifts. All through the year he'd pay close attention to any little thing I admired or made positive comments about. Then on my birthday, or Christmas, there to my surprise would be this very special gift.
Jess, A wonderful poem. Is it really all fiction? Later,Joyce/Spanky
Ah Jessica,
It may be fiction, but it is beautiful, none the less.
Nice ryhthm and flow. Easy rhyming. Well done.
Thanks for posting it.
