I shall hear in heaven
When the Archangels gather for the feast
After the admission of the blameless
And the chronicles of all chronicles is laid out
The keys, the fetter and the spin
Of the records of all deeds of men and spirits,
Then all mysteries shall be revealed
As we feast with the lamb.
I shall hear in heaven
Of the fate of all the faiths,
Of sin and sinners,
As they twenty and four elders
Throw down golden crowns before the golden throne
And jaspers and bright diadems sparkle
Making all heaven a priceless ornament
Within the light that is the son.
I shall hear in heaven
Of the first tempter that led Lucifer to sin,
And the wiles with which a third of the angels fell
Under the slyness of pride and troglodyte schemes
Sown with uncouth and unctuous tales
To besmear everlasting light.
I shall listen to tales of eternity past
And how he first fell
And how he tried to mulct the warrior Micheal,
Who shall promptly rise
To tell how the truculent spirit finagled his way
Through the coast of heaven
And how he withstood him
And how sad he was to napalm and howl away
He, who stood once, daintiest of Angels
Maestro and choir master
Of all the pooled heavenly rock band
Of that eternity that is gone.
I shall hear in heaven
How new mankind shall be cosseted from that serpent
And his innate sinful aspects stultified
For a world of bliss
Where man leads his men in truth
And the beasts in their kind, with their followers
With the wind whispering tales all year round
And the rain drops sweet on our palate
And springs springing forth to the thirsty
And they shall sorrow and mourn no more
And God would not have to die again
So painful a death.
