Memory Alley

The alley was dark that night,

Damp roads glistened in what little light was available,

Autumn leaves littered the ground,

Men walking in shadows, avoiding the light,

But I walked straight down the middle of the road,

Flickering light on either side,

Ahead, I could see the misty rain beginning to fall against the interrupted moonlight,

Avoiding shadows and puddles, I walked, slowly confidently,

Whispers from corners failed to scare me,

Banging and screaming failed to phase me,

My body was in that alley walking,

But my mind was at the end,

In the bright light of the main street,

Waiting for my body to catch up,

So my whole being could look back,

And see that alley, as just a memory.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Whenever I am in a bad situation, I try to think of it like this. At that point in time I am not enjoying myself, or things may be really hard and it seems like the situation will never change. But one day, those experiences will be just a memory, something to look back on and learn from. So the thing is, to just work your way through it, and wait it out, until the opportunity arrises to move on.
