Insomnia

Darkness fell on her face,

Her satin sheets pulled up tight under her chin,

Eyes wide open, ears too,

Fluttering curtains and dancing shadows deceive her,

She lays still and silent,

Only her eyes move,

The moonlight from the open window, glints in her eyes,

Black, dilated pupils search the walls, floor, corners,

Afraid to move, almost too afraid to breathe, she lays,

Like that, she stays, til her heavy eyelids out-weigh her fear and she drifts off to sleep.
