Can You Be I

Folder:
Other Poems

Why do people live for others standards?

Why must we live to emulate someone else?

Why can't we just be ourselves?

Are you looking at yourself in the mirror?

or are you looking at someone else.

Can we dig down; chip at the stone case,

and see who we really are, and if we like it.

Can you be I?

Can you be who you really are?

Can you be happy with I?

be happy with who you are.

Why does everyone preach diversity,

when we are all the same.

To fit in, how can you be yourself?

You have to be like everyone else, just to exist.

You can’t be I

Not in today's world

we must be like you to survive.

Hopefully someday we can be I.

But for now, we can only be everyone else.
